Cycle at Kaikoura

Loosely following the perimeter of the Kaikoura plains and skirting the Kowhai and Hapuku Rivers, the Kaikoura Trail features trails that are as diverse as the scenery and gives you the chance to explore some of the places that you don’t see from the highway. Cycle the entire loop or hop on and cycle a section.

Following the railway south from Oaro, this easy grade ride beside the railway is ideal for the whole family and gets you close to the ocean and some notable remnants from our past.

Kaikoura may not be well known for its beaches. But get on your fat bike and you’ll find it has big wide gravelly beaches that stretch for kilometres and you won’t see a soul.

The Puhi Puhi Valley is a gravel cycle experience that skirts the flanks of the north end of the Seaward Kaikoura range. The climb finishing at Saddle Gate, under the second highest peak in the Seaward Kaikouras, Te Ao Whekere at 2598m.

Mt Fyffe offers the unique experience to start at the beach and cycle to the top of a mountain. But with 1400m of elevation over 8km, it just may be one of the most demanding cycle climbs you do.
